MUDs on meth

As long as I keep posting when I'm lacking sleep, all the world will see of me is how I waste my time. This latest diversion reminds me of another way I used to burn time... For a few months back in college, the big thing in my circle of friends were MUDs, precursors to today's MMORPGs. Blame it on an ex-girlfriend who introduced me to a social MUD (a MOO, as I recall) as a way to chat while we were at our respective schools. I infected one roommate, he found a combat oriented MUD that was crack for us all - SneezyMUD. It was on a dedicated cray (at Stanford, I think), and it was my little world for several weeks/months/whatever.

After a while, it started to eat into my grades, so I had to stop. After I was the one to lead us into temptation, I was the first to quit MUDding - and I quit cold turkey. I've gone through many phases of game immersion followed by deprivation. Finding balance is not my strong suit.
